Bases are compounds that contain the oxide (O^2-) or hydroxide (OH^–) ions and neutralize acids to form salt and water only.

There are both soluble and insoluble bases. Soluble bases are known as alkali’s and they produces hydroxide ions(OH^–) in aqueous solution.

Properties of bases

-pH is greater than 7
