Bases
Bases are compounds that contain the oxide (O2-) or hydroxide (OH–) ions and neutralize acids to form salt and water only.
There are both soluble and insoluble bases. Soluble bases are known as alkali’s and they produces hydroxide ions(OH–) in aqueous solution.
Properties of bases
-When soluble are called alkali’s
-React with acids to form salt and water
-Produce OH- ions when soluble in water
-pH is greater than 7
-turn moist litmus paper blue
-good conductors of electricity in aqueous solution
